Arrival in Djibo

Djibo has never been an easy town to live in, but now it is like something out of a bad dream. If I thought Ouaga was dusty, it was nothing compared with this. The air is thick with harmattan dust and with the quiet desperation of people who have nothing.

Friends come to greet me and they all tell me how well I look and how much weight I've put on. I wish I could say the same to them.

The next few months are going to be tough.
