Balmy Burkina Faso
It is nice to be back in Burkina. Cold season here is lovely - temperatures in the mid/late twenties during the day, and cool, balmy nights. If one could filter the thick dust out of the air (and eradicate poverty), Burkina Faso in January would be just about perfect.
What a joy it is to be reunited with friends here who I have not seen for almost a year. Seydou dropped in this morning - Keith and I used to live with him and his family in Gorom Gorom and it was brilliant to see him again. He had bad news about the harvest up north, though. Seydou had planted a field this year, but (like so many people) did not get anything from it. Nor did Hama over in Menegu, who I have mentioned often in my letters. Our friends in Boukouma did not get anything from their rice fields either. The current situation is very difficult indeed.
Tomorrow morning (Tuesday) I have a meeting with the World Food Programme here in Ouaga to discuss ways of collaborating. I will write again after that.
Keithseems to be doing well over in Benin, where today is National Voodoo Day.
